About NICE: National Institute of Clean-and-low-carbon Energy (Hereinafter referred to as “NICE”) was established with approval and support from the government and the national leaders of China. It is a national research institute on energy with full support from Shenhua Group – the largest coal company in the world. Shenhua Group is an integrated energy conglomerate with its businesses extending from coal to power, railway, port and CTL & coal chemical, featuring its cross-regional, multi-industrial and diversified operations. NICE is also a pilot-plant to demonstrate the modern R&D Management system in China, and it is a combination of a company, universities and institutes, with the support from an enterprise to speed-up the innovation and technology deployment process. It is also a platform to facilitate the international collaboration and natural bridge to connect China with rest of the world on energy technologies.

Area of Focus of NICE: NICE will focus on research on developing and commercializing clean & low carbon energy technologies, studying on new energy strategies and technology roadmaps. Moreover, NICE will be a platform for attracting the international talents and innovators to solve one of the most difficult problems in this era.

Research at NICE: NICE will focus on developing technologies in the following areas:
· Novel Routes for conversion and upgrading of Coal
· Emission reduction of coal power plants & IGCC
· CCS and CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)
